Shipping and Receiving Manager

General Summary:

Senior Distribution Manager

The Shipping and Receiving Manager coordinates all Warehouse and Distribution Center receiving and shipping activities, operations, and staff related to ensuring conformance to established procedures; implements practices that improve the effectiveness and financial performance of the supply chain.

Primary Responsibility:

  • Has a strong bias towards Safety and supports a Culture of Safety.
  • Enforces established safety guidelines; promotes a safe workplace.
  • Manages warehouse activities in support of fulfillment operations including but not limited to inbound receiving and outbound shipping inventory.
  • Reviews analyzes, modifies, and implements efficient and effective department processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures accurate and timely shipments and receipts.
  • Maintains accurate records and metrics, audits, as necessary.
  • Supports semi-annual physical inventories; reconciles all variances.
  • Supports monthly cycle counts to support semi-annual physical inventories.
  • Supports quarterly stock rotations to support FIFO inventory strategy.
  • Supports audit activities on pending Outbound inventory and in-stock inventory including Bin Location Accuracy and Special-Order products.
  • Establishes and maintains professional communication with all internal and external stakeholders and customers.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all operating systems pertaining to the work area.
  • Trains motivate, develops department staff and workflow.
  • Assigns duties and monitors the quality of work; assures staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations.
  • Supports the safe and effective operation of owned/leased forklifts and pallet jacks, reporting on maintenance and assisting with scheduling, as necessary.
  • Identifies, documents, and recommends needed maintenance of DC facility – assists in the execution of maintenance in cooperation with the Facilities Maintenance Manager.
  • Provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates; actively works to promote and recognize performance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Education and Experience:

  • 4-year College Degree in education, business, communications, or related required field.
  • Prior experience working with WMS (3+ years preferred)

  • Strong inventory control skills. (APICS Certification desired)

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, or sit
  • Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
  • Continually required to talk or hear and use visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information and use a keyboard
  • Frequently required to lift/push/carry items up to fifty pounds
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Occasionally exposed to extreme heat or cold (non-weather)
  • Frequently exposed to loud noise (examples: forklifts, large trucks)
  • Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: battery powered pallet jacks, batter powered lift trucks, hand trucks, & lift-gates
